Dr. Thomas Eastman began a single specialty Gastroenterology private practice based in Fallbrook, CA and Temecula, CA over 25 years ago. In 2002, Dr. John Hong joined Dr. Thomas Eastman. The decision was made to establish an independent private practice medical corporation (United Gastroenterologists).
The practice started out with just three employees, two physicians, and one desktop computer serving the communities of Fallbrook and Temecula. From its inception, United Gastroenterologists has been committed to providing the highest level of quality care by serving our patients with the utmost compassion.
United Gastroenterologists continued to expand tremendously in the early 2000’s as a regional Gastroenterology referral practice for Riverside County, San Diego County and Orange County. In 2005, the practice opened up United Surgery Center-Murrieta, a state licensed, Medicare certified, AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care) Ambulatory Surgery Center. Over 100,000 procedures have been successfully performed since. In the following years, additional Ambulatory Surgery Centers in Temecula, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Riverside, Newport Beach, Orange, Mission Viejo and Irvine were added to the division, as well as additional specialty service lines, including but not limited to: the GI Imaging Center (CT Enterography, CT Colonography, Ultrasound) accredited by the American College of Radiology, the Center for Medical Weight Loss, an Anatomic Pathology Lab accredited by The Joint Commission (National Quality Approval Award), and a fully integrated Clinical Research Institute.
In 2017, United Gastroenterologists expanded to become United Medical Doctors, and establish the company’s presence as Southern California’s premier multi-specialty independent private practice. Additionally, United Medical Doctors expanded its reach geographically into Los Angeles County the following year in 2018, and continued on to add additional specialties such as Colorectal Surgery, ENT and more.
As of 2024, United Medical Doctors has over 70 locations, 40 specialties, 200 providers and 10 ambulatory surgery centers, further solidifying its position in the marketplace as Southern California’s premier largest integrated multi-specialty private practice.
